WellSpring’s Mission Statement

The WellSpring Centre is committed to providing space and support within a Christian context for those who wish to deepen their awareness of the presence of God in all of life and to follow the implications of this in everyday life in ways that are just, compassionate, healing and reconciling.

Aims and Purposes of the WellSpring Centre

To encourage and call people towards living with a deeper awareness of the presence of God in all the affairs of everyday life.

To this end, The Centre will provide:

· Practical support, physical space and resources for cultivating contemplative living.

· Quiet days, silent retreats and seminars.

· Personal spiritual direction.

· Opportunities to engage with issues of justice, truth, peace and reconciliation at all levels – personal, family, community, and national and international.

· An inclusive and ecumenical setting where differences of gender, church tradition and doctrine may be addressed openly and prayerfully.

To provide leadership training and support to those gifted and called to ministries in the areas of spiritual direction and reconciliation.

To this end, The Centre will provide:

· Spiritual formation and training in the art of Spiritual Direction, and supervision for Spiritual Directors.

· Spiritual formation and training in the practice of reconciliation.

Guiding Principles of the WellSpring Centre

· God, whom we worship, is revealed in Jesus Christ and gives us the Holy Spirit to renew us continually.

· Consistent and prayerful reflection on Scripture is central to hearing the transforming Word of God in all of life.

· Both personal and communal experience is central in matters of faith and prayer.

· Cultivating the art of listening is central to the desire to pay attention to God and includes learning to listen to each other and to God’s created world.

· Listening involves an openness to Christ and the Holy Spirit which encourages the crossing of traditional barriers and the development of a new community where differences are respected and honoured but not made absolute.

· Recognition of the presence and activity of God involves the development of spiritual discernment, distinguishing the significant from the trivial, the true from the counterfeit.

· There is an integral relationship between a deeper awareness of God and an active engagement with everyday life and social action.

· Sabbath time’, the divine provision of rest, is essential for the rhythm of life – in maintaining wholeness, perspective and a sense of God’s saving presence.

· Gifts of ministry should be nurtured and leadership potential developed.

· The Centre is called to be a prophetic voice within the Church at large.
