From ancient times the spring was viewed as a gift, arising mysteriously from the ground and spreading life wherever its waters flowed. It is not surprising that in biblical times this became a common picture of the life of God in the world.
The
WellSpring Centre also has this image at the heart of its ministry. God
is the 'living water' of life—refreshing, cleansing, life giving and creative.
The physical space of the Centre and the program offered seek to encourage
an awareness of this as a reality out of which to live.
The development of the WellSpring Centre was initiated by the Ashburton Baptist Church and thus has its roots in the traditions of Protestant spirituality. It is however administered by an independent board and is intentionally ecumenical in scope and spirit.
We warmly invite you to visit us as soon as you can! You may enjoy participating in some of the seminars, retreats and other events that we offer listed, or you may prefer to simply browse in the reading room or sit quietly in the chapel or garden. Perhaps you will do both. Whatever you choose, we hope that you will discover refreshing and hospitable space here and that you call in frequently to find yourself 'at home.'
