NOVEMBER EVENTS

Professional Development Session for Spiritual Directors:
Online Spiritual Direction and Supervision
Facilitator: Marcel Koper
Thursday 5 November, 10am to 12noon

Marcel Koper has been a Mental Health professional for about 25 years and specialises in providing supervision for those in ministry settings of all types. He believes that if he is providing support for the one person, then he is supporting the hundreds that they are ministering to directly or indirectly. He has had a speciality in online counselling, where he undertook international training via the Uni of Toronto, and has since taught for World Wide Therapy Online.

This training is the nexus of supporting people in ministry settings and the importance of the availability of online care. People have been thrust into delivering this form of Spiritual Direction, counselling and care without adequate training or knowledge. These sessions are designed to help people’s understanding of the ethical, clinical, and practical knowledge of what is involved but also to encourage them that this is a very effective and useful way of practicing SD. This will involve how the internet works at the most fundamental level as well as research on online practice.

This session will also have some focus on how we convey the non-verbals in phone, email (or snail mail), and live messaging and how we can reach wider audiences.

If we consider that spiritual direction had a wonderful tradition in the writing of letters (snail mail) and the recipients had something they could continue to peruse over and over again…
