About the artist and her work
Diane Mattiske is a local Textile Artist who has a love of nature, walking, exploring, and observing. The colours, textures and patterns in nature are a source of delight and provide abundant scope for inspiration. Photography is an important part of her journey. Diane has been exhibiting her textile artwork since 2012 and hosted her first solo exhibition “Natural Progression” in November 2015 at Chapel on Station Gallery, in Box Hill. Since then, Diane has continued to regularly participate in both juried and group exhibitions.
Diane employs a range of techniques to express her appreciation of the natural world, including botanical dyeing, mono printing, free machine embroidery, fabric collage, felting, machine knitting, and 3D explorations. The shape and structure of leaves are of particular interest and prominently feature within her artwork. Australian native leaf matter was foraged locally or home-grown, chosen for its colour and shape. Diane prefers to work with natural fibres. Where possible, she repurposes discarded blankets, bed linen and clothing. Works created after 2020 feature a different colour palette and express her faith more openly.
Each week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we meet for Prayer at Noon, in the Chapel (and online via Zoom on WEDNESDAYS ONLY). ...
