Action & Contemplation: the Art of Christian Engagement
This unit explores the art and gifts of engaging in life, ministry, social and environmental action with a Christian contemplative awareness. It will examine the theological foundations and practical implications for a contemplative spirituality informed by the Christian tradition and how these can beneficially affect one’s wellbeing, relationships, decision-making and active engagement with contemporary social and environmental issues.
Particular focus will be given to:
- the theological basis for a Christian contemplative spirituality today.
- address the practical challenges of integrating one's active, social involvements with one’s spiritual life;
- spiritual exercises to promote greater contemplative awareness in all facets of life;
- how contemplative postures and practices can fruitfully support the processes of healing, forgiveness and reconciliation in relationships;
- engaging with the non’-violent third way’ approach of Jesus and other prophetic mystics.
